How to Get Rid of Acne Scars
If you suffer from acne or did at one point, you probably have some ugly scars to remind you of it. Acne scars are very visible since they are usually on your face, which can cause a lot of self esteem issues. What’s worse is that they are often discolored and indented, which makes them tough to get rid of. A large percentage of people suffer from acne at some point and many of them will end up with a degree of scarring from it. There is a huge market for acne and acne scarring treatments out there, many of them involving medical procedures or laser treatments. Many people are more than willing to pay large amounts and undergo the risk to get rid of acne scars. What they don’t’ know is that most acne scarring can be faded or completely eliminated from home using basic over the counter products. This is often safer and much less expensive than some medical procedures.
The first step is always to get rid of your acne. This is tough for some, but normally involves a combination of benzoyl peroxide, a toner, and an oil free moisturizer. This combination works for most people and can be found in most popular acne products like Proactiv. Benzoyl peroxide removes oil from the pores, the toner helps to shrink the pores, and the moisturizer hydrates the skin, since the peroxide will dry it out. Even if you have oily skin, don’t forget to moisturize. When the skin dries out, your face will just produce even more oil to compensate, causing breakouts.
Next, you will want to start rebuilding the damage you did to your skin. The most effective ways to do this is chemical peels and dermabrasion. These treatments are often performed in doctors offices or spas, but can also be performed at home. You can purchase chemical peels at different concentrations online, and perform them at home to help remove the outer layers of skin, and rebuild fresh, smoother skin. Never use a chemical peel more than once per week and always use a moisturizer and sunscreen afterward. Never use chemical peels and go into the sun as your skin will be very sensitive to sunlight. Always use sunscreen for several days after. Microdermabrasion is another method that can be performed from home using facial scrubs. Simply rub the skin with the scrub or for several minutes, removing the dead layers of skin. Zenmed has an acne scar treatment kit that uses this method. Check it out:
After performing this, you’ll want to help the skin regenerate by applying effective natural products. There are some very effective one’s out there that have proven to improve scarring in a very short time period. Avoid Vitamin E as it can cause rashes in many people and has not been proven to improve scars in any medical study. Instead go with tested and proven products.
